A Rose by any other name…

After waiting patiently for 9 months and giving birth to your first, third or fifth child, you want to shout from the roof tops just how clever you are to create such a perfect miracle! We look at this beautiful child and we need to give them a gift of a perfect name that will carry them from infancy to adulthood..

How do we do this?
Choosing a name is perhaps one of the most difficult tasks that parents are faced with. Do we choose a name based on family tradition or based on the meaning of particular names in hopes that our child will be bestowed with the characteristics of that name?

In some cultures, they believe that a child’s soul doesn’t enter their bodies until they are named…or that a child’s foot should not be placed upon the earth until the parents have blessed them with a name.

However we may decide, we celebrate the birthright of the child in honouring them with a name to give them their own unique identities to develop their own personalities.

Naming ceremonies introduce the child into the family and friendship circles, and may also honour god parents or guardians that we appoint for the child.

These celebrations need to be personal and unique, and in exploring the use of smaller ceremonies we can ensure that each occasion will be memorable.

Naming ceremonies can be used for all ages – infants, children or adults, in a variety of situations – birth, adoption or uniting a blended family after marriage. They can be done solely as a ‘Name Giving Ceremony’ or within a Wedding Ceremony. The possibilities are endless, so let’s work together to create a ceremony that is perfect for you…
